UBC International Student Scholarships 2025 Overview

The University of British Columbia (UBC), ranked among the top 40 universities globally, offers multiple merit-based scholarships for outstanding international students entering undergraduate programs. These awards are designed to recognize academic excellence, extracurricular involvement, and leadership potential. UBC’s scholarships include the International Major Entrance Scholarship (IMES), the Outstanding International Student (OIS) Award, and the UBC Okanagan International Welcome Award.

UBC International Student Scholarships 2025 Eligibility

To be considered for UBC’s merit-based scholarships, applicants must:

• Be applying to UBC as a first-year undergraduate student

• Be entering directly from secondary school (for IMES and OIS) or from secondary/post-secondary (for OIS)

• Be an international student on a Canadian study permit

• Demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and strong involvement in extracurricular or community activities

• Not be nominated for a need-and-merit-based International Scholars Program award

• Apply to UBC by the official admissions deadline

UBC International Student Scholarships 2025 Benefits

1. International Major Entrance Scholarship (IMES)

   • Awarded to exceptional international students entering UBC

   • Value: $10,000 – $20,000 per year

   • Renewable for up to 3 additional years (4 years total)

2. Outstanding International Student (OIS) Award

   • One-time entrance scholarship

   • Value: $10,000 – $25,000

   • Awarded at the time of admission offer

3. UBC Okanagan International Welcome Award

   • For students selecting UBC Okanagan as their first-choice campus

   • Value: $5,000 (credited toward first-year tuition)

   • Automatically applied upon enrollment in first-choice UBC Okanagan program

Application Requirements

• No separate application is needed for IMES, OIS, or Okanagan Welcome Award

• Apply to UBC by the undergraduate admissions deadline

• Ensure UBC Okanagan is selected as first choice (for Okanagan Welcome Award)

Restrictions

• Only available to international students

• Awards do not cover the full cost of education; students are encouraged to plan financially

Application Process

• Submit your application to UBC through the official admissions portal

• You’ll automatically be considered for all relevant merit-based awards

• Scholarship notifications are sent between mid-March and end of April

• Only successful candidates will be contacted

• Award decisions are final
