Adejumobi Adegbite Fellowship for Young Nigerian Journalists 2025 Overview

The Adejumobi Adegbite Fellowship, launched by the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) in collaboration with the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos, is a one-year program designed to support early-career journalists in Nigeria. This initiative honors the legacy of Adejumobi Adegbite, a renowned journalist and former Information Specialist at the U.S. Consulate in Lagos.

The fellowship aims to nurture the next generation of investigative journalists by offering mentorship, resources, and hands-on training in investigative, multimedia, ethical, and data-driven reporting.

Adejumobi Adegbite Fellowship for Young Nigerian Journalists 2025 Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a Nigerian citizen and permanent resident in Nigeria

  • Have less than five years of work experience in journalism

  • Be a currently active intern, freelance, part-time, or full-time media professional

  • Not be an alumnus or past participant of any U.S. government exchange program

  • Submit two original investigative stories published within 24 months prior to the deadline

  • Be available to attend opening and closing sessions in Lagos, and two online sessions

Application Requirements

Submit the following via email to programmes@fij.ng on or before Monday, May 26, 2025:

  1. Two investigative stories published within the past 24 months (features, opinion pieces, and analyses are not accepted)

  2. A personal statement (maximum 1000 words) explaining:

    • Your motivation as a journalist

    • How the fellowship aligns with your career goals

  3. A curriculum vitae (CV)
