🇯🇵 Study in Japan 2026: Konan University YiJ Program Scholarships (JASSO, HUMAP & Internal Funding)

Overview
Students accepted into the Konan University Year-in-Japan (YiJ) Program are eligible to apply for several internal and external scholarships supporting their study and living experience in Japan:

Hyogo University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific (HUMAP) Scholarship

Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) Scholarship (Funded by MEXT)

Konan Internal Scholarship – for students committed to service within the Konan University community.
Both HUMAP and JASSO provide approximately 80,000 yen per month for the duration of enrollment in the YiJ program.
Each scholarship has its own requirements, application process, and limited slots.
Eligibility
Applicants must:

Be officially nominated by a partner university and remain an enrolled student throughout the exchange.

Demonstrate motivation to study Japanese intensively, interest in Japanese culture, and adaptability to life in Japan.

Be physically and mentally fit as confirmed in the program Health Report.

Hold a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (exceptions may be discussed for 2.5–3.0 with KIEC).

Fall Entry: No prior Japanese required, but must complete introductory study before arrival and submit a Japanese Language Pre-Arrival Study Plan if self-studied.

Spring Entry: Must have completed beginner-level study and be ready for pre-intermediate coursework (JLPT N4 equivalent).

Demonstrate English proficiency equivalent to CEFR B2, OR:

Be from USA, Canada (excluding Quebec), UK, or Australia

Provide language test results (CEFR B2+)

Submit a faculty recommendation confirming proficiency
-
Students without partner university status in the U.S. may apply via the UH Consortium.
