AAUW International Fellowships for Women 2026–2027: Overview
The AAUW International Fellowships support women from outside the United States who are pursuing full-time graduate or postgraduate studies (Master’s or Doctorate) in the U.S. or, for Graduate Women International (GWI) members, in other countries. Since 1917, the fellowship has focused on academic excellence, leadership, and the empowerment of women and girls.

Fellowship Term: July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027

First Stipend Disbursement: July – September 2026

Second Stipend Disbursement: January 2027
Scholarship Categories
-
Master’s Degree Fellowship: $20,000
-
Doctoral Degree Fellowship: $25,000
Up to five renewable master’s awards available for two-year programs
AAUW International Fellowships for Women 2026–2027: Eligibility Criteria
-
Must identify as a woman and be a non-U.S. citizen or permanent resident
-
Must hold a degree equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s with at least a 3.5 GPA
-
Must be admitted/enrolled in a full-time accredited U.S. institution for their first master’s or doctoral degree
-
Must commit to returning to their home country after study to apply their knowledge
-
GWI members may apply for study in any country other than their own

Previous AAUW fellowship recipients (except certain grants) are not eligible

Important Notes

Fellowship covers living expenses only and is disbursed in two equal payments

Fellows must reside in the U.S. or the research country during the fellowship

Renewal for the master’s program is possible with a GPA of 3.5 and a successful progress report

Preference given to applicants with no prior international study and from underrepresented countries
