ASMAF Scholarship 2026: Full Tuition, Board, and Upkeep for Indigent Nigerian Female Students in Professional Courses
Across Nigeria, thousands of academically gifted young women gain admission to study medicine, law, engineering, accountancy, architecture, and other professional courses, only to watch the opportunity slip away because their families cannot afford the fees.
The ASMAF Scholarship exists specifically for those young women.
This is a need-based financial aid award for indigent Nigerian female students gaining entry into professional undergraduate programmes at Nigerian public universities. It covers tuition, board, and upkeep for up to six years — and comes with mentoring, life skills development, and leadership training alongside the financial support.
The submission deadline is Tuesday, 15 September 2026. Applications open on 1 August 2026.
What the Scholarship Covers
| Component | Detail |
|---|---|
| Tuition | Fully covered |
| Board (accommodation) | Covered |
| Upkeep (living costs) | Covered |
| Duration | Up to 6 years depending on course and year of award |
| Renewal condition | Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher |
| Additional benefits | Life skills and leadership development, mentoring, access to learning resources |
This is one of the few Nigerian scholarship programmes that cover the full cost of study, not just tuition but accommodation and daily living expenses. For a student from a genuinely indigent background, this is the difference between staying in school and dropping out.
The scholarship is renewed annually for the full duration of the course, provided the awardee maintains a CGPA of 3.0 or above and fully participates in all ASMAF programmes.
Who Can Apply: Eligibility
The ASMAF Scholarship has four clear eligibility criteria. Every one must be met:
1. Female, indigent, and Nigerian citizen
The scholarship is exclusively for Nigerian female citizens who are indigent — meaning their family’s financial situation genuinely prevents them from funding their own education. Financial need is assessed based on income, assets, and family size.
2. First-time tertiary student
You must be embarking on tertiary-level qualifications for the first time. Students who have previously studied at university level are not eligible.
3. Admitted to a qualifying professional course at a Nigerian public university
Eligible courses are:
- Medicine
- Law
- Actuarial Science
- Engineering
- Accountancy
- Architecture
- Any other recognised professional course
The programme must be at a public university in Nigeria, private universities are not covered.
4. Demonstrate academic promise and leadership potential
Financial need is the primary factor, but recipients must also be academically promising with the potential to succeed in their professional course.
How Selection Works
All eligibility criteria are verified. Recommenders may be contacted for confirmation.
A provisional ranking is prepared based on:
- Course of study
- State of origin
- Geographical zone of the admitting university
The final list of successful applicants is determined by the sum of funds available. ASMAF’s selection decisions are final and binding; no appeals are entertained.
Only shortlisted applicants are contacted. If you do not hear from ASMAF, your application was not shortlisted.
What You Need to Submit
Applications are submitted via an online form. All required documents must be included. Incomplete applications are rejected.
For newly admitted students:
- JAMB admission letter
- Evidence of credit passes in O-level subjects (GCE/NECO/WASC or other approved qualification)
- Evidence of post-JAMB examination or interview result
- Completed online application form
For currently enrolled students:
- Official transcript certified by the University Registrar or delegated representative
- Evidence of credit passes in O-level subjects
- Completed online application form
Both categories also require:
- A recommender letter from an educator (principal, teacher, guidance counsellor, higher education representative) who is familiar with your academic performance — relatives cannot serve as recommenders
- A referee letter from an adult of reputable character who is familiar with your financial situation — also not a relative
Key Conditions Once Awarded
If you receive the ASMAF Scholarship, the following apply for its entire duration:
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher — annual renewal depends on this
- Submit a one-page annual progress report to ASMAF each year
- Do not hold any other scholarship or bursary without ASMAF’s written approval
- Do not engage in full-time employment while on the scholarship
- Do not change your course of study without ASMAF’s written approval
- The scholarship cannot be transferred to another institution
Failure to meet any of these conditions — or providing false information at any stage — will result in termination of the award. Terminated awards cannot be reactivated unless the termination was made in error.
