What Is the Chevening Scholarship at Kent?
The University of Kent is a long-standing Chevening partner university, hosting scholars from around the world each year for fully funded one-year taught Master’s degrees at its UK campuses.
In addition to standard Chevening Scholarships, Kent offers three partner scholarships, making it one of the more actively invested Chevening partner institutions in the UK. In 2023–24, nine Chevening Scholars studied at Kent.
If you are targeting a UK Master’s through Chevening and Kent’s programmes align with your goals, selecting Kent as your first preference in your Chevening application is strongly encouraged.

Eligibility: Core Requirements
- Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country (Nigeria is eligible)
- Hold an undergraduate degree equivalent to a UK 2:1 Honours or above (requirements vary by course)
- Have at least two years of work experience
- Apply to three different eligible UK university courses
- Have an unconditional offer from at least one by the stated deadline
- Commit to returning home for a minimum of two years after your scholarship ends
Note: Chevening scholars cannot apply for a Graduate Route Visa. Accepting a Chevening award is a binding commitment to return home for two years post-scholarship.
About the University of Kent
The University of Kent is based in Canterbury, a historic cathedral city in southeast England — an hour from London by train. Kent is known for its strengths in law, social sciences, politics, humanities, and business, with campuses also in Medway and Brussels.
Kent’s Chevening scholars are invited to VIP events including visits to the Lord Mayor of Canterbury. The university’s active relationship with the Chevening programme — including its three partner scholarships — means Kent scholars receive institutional support beyond what standard Chevening placements offer.

All Chevening applications are submitted through the official Chevening portal at chevening.org/apply. There is no separate Kent application for the scholarship itself.
