DAAD/EPOS Scholarships 2026 for MSc Environmental Governance: Overview

The MSc Environmental Governance (MEG) programme at the University of Freiburg is part of the prestigious DAAD-EPOS (Development-Related Postgraduate Courses) scholarship scheme. It is aimed at highly qualified young professionals from developing countries who wish to study environmental governance in Germany. This fully funded scholarship supports future leaders in development who are committed to addressing global environmental challenges.

DAAD/EPOS Scholarships 2026 for MSc Environmental Governance: Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be a national of a DAC-listed developing country

  • Hold an academic degree not older than six years (as of October 2025)

  • Have at least two years of relevant full-time professional experience (post-Bachelor)

    • Internships and voluntary work do not count

    • Academic work (teaching or research) is not accepted, except in very rare cases

  • Have a very good academic record (top third of class)

  • Must not have resided in Germany for more than 15 months before the application

Documents Required

  • Online application (opens July 1, 2025)

  • Curriculum Vitae (signed, using the Europass format)

  • Letter of Motivation (with reference to current occupation and development-related goals)

  • Academic transcripts and certificates

  • Certificate(s) of employment from employer(s), showing at least two years of relevant experience

  • Language proficiency proof (English – IELTS/TOEFL)

  • DAAD Application Form

  • Recommendation letter from current employer (if applicable)

Important Notes

  • Application deadline: 15 October 2025

  • The same application covers both the MEG programme and the DAAD-EPOS scholarship

  • If you’re not eligible for DAAD-EPOS, you may apply as a regular applicant by 15 May 2026 for the October 2026 intake

  • Highly competitive – only a limited number of scholarships are awarded

Selection Process

  • Step 1: The MEG programme committee reviews and shortlists candidates

  • Step 2: DAAD conducts a final check and makes the final selection
