EPFL Master Excellence Fellowships 2025: Overview

The EPFL Master Excellence Fellowships reward the most outstanding students beginning their Master’s studies at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland. These competitive awards recognize academic excellence and exceptional extracurricular achievements (research, entrepreneurship, civic engagement, sports, or arts).

Fellows receive financial support to focus on their studies while gaining the freedom to pursue enriching professional activities such as internships, research, and entrepreneurial projects.

EPFL Master Excellence Fellowships 2025: Eligibility

• Open to:

  • Internal candidates (EPFL Bachelor’s graduates).

  • External candidates (graduates from other universities worldwide).

• Selection based on:

  • Outstanding academic record.

  • Distinction in extracurricular fields (research, publications, entrepreneurship, patents, civic/associative activities, sports, cultural initiatives).

Application Requirements

• Indicate interest by checking the “Excellence Fellowship” box on the Master’s application form.

• Submit the required fellowship application file (as specified by EPFL).

• For internal candidates continuing in the same field, the application is submitted directly to their academic section.

Selection Criteria

• Strong academic excellence (high grades and performance in previous studies).

• Extracurricular achievements in at least one of the following:

  • Research (publications, prizes, awards, fellowships).

  • Entrepreneurship (patents, start-up creation).

  • Civic engagement (community, leadership, volunteering, event organization).

  • Sports, arts, or cultural initiatives.

• Overall potential to contribute to EPFL’s academic and innovation community.

Application Process

1. Complete the Master’s application form online.

2. Tick the Excellence Fellowship option.

3. Upload all supporting documents required (academic transcripts, CV, evidence of extracurricular achievements).

4. Submit application before the EPFL Master’s programme deadline.

5. Renewal: To keep the fellowship for the second year, recipients must earn ≥50 ECTS credits and maintain a minimum GPA of 5.0/6.0.
