Overview

The University of Glasgow African Excellence Award is a prestigious, fully funded postgraduate scholarship designed for high-achieving African students who want to pursue a one-year taught Master’s degree and become future world changers. The scholarship supports students with strong academic backgrounds and clear plans to contribute positively to their communities after graduation.

Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be domiciled in Africa and hold a passport from an eligible African country

  • Have International fee status

  • Demonstrate academic excellence equivalent to a UK First-Class Honours degree

  • Apply for a one-year postgraduate taught Master’s programme (PG Diplomas & Certificates excluded)

  • Hold (or be working towards) an offer for September 2026 entry

  • Show a clear career and development plan linked to their Master’s study

  • Meet UKVI living cost requirements

Scholarship Benefits

  • 100% full tuition fee waiver

  • Covers any discipline offered at Master’s level

  • Supports up to 16 African students

Eligible Countries

Includes (but not limited to):
Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, Egypt, Uganda, Rwanda, Senegal, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Morocco, Algeria, Cameroon, Malawi, Sudan, Sierra Leone, and many more African nations.

Eligible Programmes

  • Open to almost all one-year postgraduate taught Master’s programmes

  • Covers fields such as:

    • Cybersecurity, Data Science, AI, Engineering

    • Public Health, Global Health, Medicine-related programmes

    • Law, International Relations, Business & Finance

    • Education, Development, Climate & Environmental Studies

    • Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Technology

Selection Criteria

  • Academic merit

  • Strength and clarity of career goals

  • Potential for community, national, or regional impact

Application Process

  • Apply for an eligible Master’s programme at the University of Glasgow

  • Complete the African Excellence Award application using your student ID and application number

Deadline: 31 March 2026 (23:59 UK time)

Interview shortlist notification: By 8 May 2026
