Overview

The President’s PhD Scholarships at Imperial College London offer exceptional students the opportunity to pursue a fully funded PhD at one of the world’s leading research universities. The scholarship is open to high-achieving undergraduates or Master’s students with a passion for advanced research. Scholars are supported by top supervisors and join a global network of innovators and researchers.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Hold or expect to achieve a first-class undergraduate or integrated Master’s degree, or a distinction in a standalone Master’s.

  • Demonstrate strong research potential and academic excellence.

  • Apply for a new PhD (current Imperial PhD students are not eligible).

  • Be from any nationality (no restrictions).

  • Have an Imperial supervisor who has agreed to oversee their project before applying.

Candidates with non-traditional academic or career paths who show exceptional research promise are also encouraged to apply.

Benefits

Each of the 50 available scholarships provides:

  • Full tuition fee coverage for 3.5 years.

  • Annual stipend of £26,500 (2026–27 rate) for living expenses.

  • Consumables fund of £2,000 per year for the first three years.

  • Access to professional development and exclusive events via the Early Career Researcher Institute (ECRI).

Selection Criteria

Applicants are assessed based on:

  • Academic excellence: grades, distinctions, and academic awards.

  • Research potential: previous experience, proposal strength, and innovation.

  • Departmental recommendation and interview performance.

Application Process

  • Apply online for admission to an Imperial PhD program.

  • Select “President’s PhD Scholarship” under the funding section.

  • Contact and secure an agreement with a potential supervisor before applying.

  • Submit a two-page personal statement (1 page motivation + 1 page research proposal).

  • Provide two academic references (excluding your proposed supervisor).

Application Deadlines & Notification Dates

  • Round 1: Apply by 3 November 2025 → Results by 31 January 2026.

  • Round 2: Apply by 12 January 2026 → Results by 31 March 2026.

  • Round 3: Apply by 2 March 2026 → Results by 31 May 2026.
