HumAngle Technology and Civic Impact Fellowship Overview

HumAngle Foundation invites applications for the second cohort of its Technology and Civic Impact Fellowship (HTCIF). This program is designed to empower Nigerian professionals working at the intersection of technology, journalism, advocacy, and civil society by equipping them with tools to drive meaningful civic change. The fellowship aims to amplify underrepresented voices and encourage innovation for social impact through emerging technologies like AI, VR, GIS, and immersive storytelling.

HumAngle Technology and Civic Impact Fellowship Eligibility

Ideal applicants are:

  • Aged between 21 and 35 years

  • Professionals with at least 2 years of experience in:

    • Journalism

    • Advocacy

    • Non-profit/humanitarian work

    • Research

    • Public policy

    • Technology for social good

  • Active in civil society, research, or media sectors

  • Women are strongly encouraged to apply

  • Interested in leveraging technology (especially AI) for social impact

  • Based in Nigeria

HumAngle Technology and Civic Impact Fellowship Benefits

  • 5-day in-person training in Abuja (FCT)

  • Tailored mentorship for three months

  • Monthly learning and peer-sharing calls

  • Skills development in:

    • Civic tech

    • AI & VR for storytelling

    • GIS and digital advocacy

    • Public accountability through tech

  • Opportunity to pitch for a small project grant

  • Feature and visibility for projects via HumAngle Media

HumAngle Technology and Civic Impact Fellowship: Fellowship Structure

  • In-Person Training: 5 days of hands-on workshops and lectures in Abuja

  • Post-Training Phase (3 months):

    • Monthly progress reports

    • Monthly calls with mentor and peer group

    • Implementation of a personal project

    • Step-down training for colleagues

HumAngle Technology and Civic Impact Fellowship Expectations

  • Attendance at the 5-day in-person training

  • Development and execution of a tech-powered civic project (3-month implementation window)

  • Regular engagement in fellowship activities (reports, calls, mentorship)

  • Knowledge sharing via step-down training at their workplace or network

Sample Project Ideas

  • AI-powered accountability platform

  • Civic tech training for youth

  • Investigative report using AI tools

  • Advocacy campaigns driven by immersive media

  • Research on ethical AI or AI in governance

  • Documentary blending VR or AI to highlight social issues

  • Any innovative blend of technology and civic impact

Project Criteria

Projects must be:

  • Innovative and tech-embedded

  • SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-bound)

  • Low-cost and feasible within 3 months

  • Centered on accountability, democracy, transparency, or human rights
