ICTP Postgraduate Diploma Scholarship Program 2025-2026 Overview
The ICTP Postgraduate Diploma Programme is an intensive pre-PhD programme designed to prepare talented students from developing countries for advanced research and PhD studies. Established in 1991, it has helped many graduates pursue PhDs in prestigious universities worldwide, with some later returning to their home countries to contribute to teaching and research.
ICTP Postgraduate Diploma Scholarship Program 2025-2026 Eligibility
- Open to young graduates (generally below 28 years old) from UN, UNESCO, or IAEA member countries.
- Must hold an MSc (or an exceptionally good BSc) in Physics, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Strong academic records and recommendations are required.
- English proficiency in speaking and writing is essential.
Field-Specific Knowledge Requirements:
- Condensed Matter Physics: Solid state physics, quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, electrodynamics, mathematical physics.
- High Energy, Cosmology & Astroparticle Physics: Classical mechanics, electrodynamics, relativity, quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics.
- Earth System Physics: Physics, mathematics, engineering background with geophysics applications.
- Mathematics: Abstract algebra, real and complex analysis, topology.
- Quantitative Life Sciences: Mechanics, thermodynamics, statistical mechanics, mathematical methods, programming basics.
ICTP Postgraduate Diploma Scholarship Program 2025-2026 Benefits
- Full tuition coverage.
- 10 scholarships per field (including travel grants) for students from developing countries.
- Additional self-funded students may be accepted if they provide proof of financial support.
Programme Components
- One-year duration (September 1 – August 31).
- Coursework with exams.
- Research dissertation submission and defense.

- Proof of English proficiency for scientific studies.
- Two recommendation letters from senior scientists.
