EFL Teacher

Location: The post is based in KIL Liverpool but may require occasional attendance at other sites within the UK.

Reports: This position reports to the Director of Studies.

The Department/team/college: The teaching team is responsible for delivering KIL’s academic programmes.

Objective: To deliver KIL programmes to the highest standard possible by actively seeking to develop as a teacher and consistently meeting individual student needs.

Main responsibilities and functions

Duties:

General

  • To have a working knowledge and understanding of relevant handbooks and procedural documents
  • To adhere to the KIL Teacher Standards
  • Other duties as deemed necessary by the Director of Studies and/or Principal

Academic

  • To teach up to 21 hours per week
  • To plan and prepare lessons in accordance with the standards outlined in the KIL Teaching Standards
  • To prepare thorough lesson plans for in-house observations and external observations where necessary.
  • To assign homework and to mark assignments.
  • To assist in the testing and placement (as needed) of new and existing students ensuring all students are assessed as accurately as possible
  • To conduct regular tutorials in accordance with the KIL Tutorial policy
  • To promote independent learning via needs analysis, tutorials, support and reports
  • To be proactive about your personal development, to attend all compulsory training sessions and to actively participate in any training offered
  • To contribute to the development of KIE materials though training and feedback.

Administrative

  • To keep accurate records of planning and work done.
  • To attend a teachers’ meeting once per week
  • To keep accurate and up to date records of work done and materials used in class
  • To keep accurate and complete records of student attendance and to report absence as per school procedures
  • To mark students’ homework as required
  • To check students online participation and scores and mark writing assignments
  • To assist in the testing and placement of new and existing students (paid at administrative rates)
  • To produce personalised monthly reports on student progress

Additional Duties

  • To assist students and others with enquiries and requests, and to know where to direct those in need of assistance if unable to provide it
  • All members of the school team are responsible for all aspects of our students safeguarding and welfare in conjunction with the wider school and company management teams.

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • A bachelor’s degree as minimum
  • CELTA or equivalent

Desirable 

  • DELTA or equivalent such as MA TEFL/EFL including observed teaching/Trinity Diploma or International Equivalent.

 

Work Experience and Knowledge 

Essential

  • A solid understanding of language learning through a communicative methodology

 

Desirable

  • Awareness of British Council and ISI inspection criteria
  • Experience of working in an ELT environment
  • Experience with using IWB’s in the classroom
  • Skills and Competencies
  • Essential
  • Demonstrates a passion for teaching and inspires students to learn
  • Demonstrates a high level of customer service practices
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to develop learner autonomy with students

Special requirements

The post holder requires a DBS (formerly CRB) check
