Head of Engineering
We’re growing – a lot! 🚀 So we finally have budget and bandwidth to expand the team in a way we never could before.
Which mean – you guessed it – we’re looking to grow HR DataHub’s Engineering practice, and get some solid leadership to guide the way! 🤩 Technically, we’ve already had an interim Head of Engineering that’s been with us for a few months (on a contracting basis) to help us set some of the foundations, but now it’s time to look at the long term and get someone in-house that will be with us for the journey!
The Head of Engineering we’re looking for will not only lead our Engineering practice, but will also be a hands-on practitioner that is embedded in one of our crews to lead by example and participate in the delivery of our products! As a SaaS business, the power and importance of good Engineering is not lost on us. Our platform is disrupting a sleepy industry by providing digital data-centric services, for an audience that’s neither digitally-savvy, nor comfortable grasping data-driven insights. It’s a really interesting challenge – how might be use exceptional engineering to turn highly complex challenges into products that people love and get tons of value out of?

More concretely, what will you be doing on a day-to-day basis?
- Put our users first, always. Learn about them, get to know them, and consider their experience when strategising our engineering solutions
- Leading the engineering practice across all squads/crews and driving best (or better!) practices in engineering across the company
- Deeply understanding the system architecture and identifying possible improvements and steps to get there
- Working closely with Product and Design to feedback into the product roadmap by providing high level estimates of proposed new features
- Growing and retaining the engineering team, ensuring we have the right skill mix for current and future work and developers are engaged and motivated
- Keeping track of technical debt and risks and prioritising against business or product demands
- Challenge assumptions, make the best use of the time and the opportunity we have by ensuring we are trying to answer the right questions, rather than solutionising
- Communicate – Communicate – Communicate! Let everyone on the team know about your plans, your progress, your findings, what’s been delivered.
- Be pro-active and pragmatic about how we get stuff done. We’ll expect you to take the lead in resolving problems, gathering opinions, taking decisions, and making sure we move at pace.
