ABOUT THE ROLE
Legal Intern at The Room
Your Mission:
Help the Band (yes, we are a rock band) to identify key legal issues for our customers, break them down into manageable steps, and assemble those steps into clear and straightforward solutions.
Goals:
- Build, optimize and maintain Alexandria (our library of legal & compliance documents)
- Support the band and our fans (customers) on where to find and how to use our resources
Key Activities:
- Conduct legal research on issues related to our business operations
- Produce clearly articulated, easy to use tablatures (playbooks) that help make sense of legal documents for customer use
- Work with the band and technical staff to develop and test JANIS (our interactive tech solution for all legal & compliance things)
Current Projects:
- Alexandria: Phase 1: Identify and centralize all legal documents in a central repository (ergo Alexandria). Phase 2: Migrate Alexandria into an automated document management tool that enables automated risk management notifications (i.e nobody forgets to renew or cancel a contract) integrated into JANIS
- Xochi: Phase 1 registering The Room and ALX trademarks and slogans in priority classes 41, 42, 35, 38 and 16 across all jurisdictions especially, Africa and IP blocks such as WIPO
- LECOR Academy: Phase 1: Streamline the delivery of our current product offerings (contracts, advice and transactions) through seamless and transparent workflows. Phase 2: Build internal redundancy systems (i.e clear playbooks that enable anyone in the band to deliver any of the products at any given time).
Key Skills Required:
- Interested in technology and automation
- G-suite skills are a must
- Excellent communication and time management (you need to commit to and deliver against deadlines!)
- Be able to translate legalese jargon into plain English.
- You need to be very independent and able to manage your own time (we don’t micromanage.
In this capacity, you would be working with every member of the band and supporting their projects and deliverables. We challenge each other with complex tasks and let innovation and creativity run their course. You will own projects and workstreams and have the freedom to reach out to senior leaders of the organization and access the information you need to get stuff done.
