QA Manager

As QA Manager you’ll oversee a small team of experienced software quality engineers who are working to provide the best test coverage across multiple product lines in an agile environment.  You will support the QA engineers as a hands-on manager across a handful of scrum teams–performing people management duties and leaning in for technical work as needed.  The QA Manager will be responsible for understanding project priorities, ensuring we are maintaining quality while achieving deadlines, and raising red flags when problems occur.

As QA Manager you will also champion quality across the organization–bringing your knowledge of best practices to bear.  You’ll work closely with the Product, UX, Development, and Client Services teams to identify and implement improvements to our processes and increase value delivery to our customers.

You will:

  • Provide project management for key quality processes of the SDLC:  test planning, test execution, and code delivery verification in a SAFe agile environment
  • Work with QA engineers and developers to ensure test coverage for new feature development, infrastructure changes, and third-party upgrades across multiple product lines
  • Review and update test plans and test cases, and oversee the test case repository
  • Work with Product Managers to understand the intent of new features and how they will best serve our customers; ensure QA testing validates these areas
  • Work with UX Designers to understand the testing needs around client workflows, accessibility requirements, and usability updates
  • Ensure roadblocks and dependencies are called out and resolved with cross-functional teams
  • Make informed decisions and appropriate tradeoffs when competing priorities require
  • Work closely with the test automation team to define and expand functional and performance test coverage where it will have the most impact
  • Champion continuous improvement within the QA organization–implement root cause analysis and corrective action processes
  • Track defect and test metrics to make data-based decisions and recommendations for improvements
  • Provide hands-on leadership to the Quality Assurance team, coaching both manual testers and automation engineers to help them develop their skills and careers
  • Manage team members through regular one-on-ones, goal setting, and annual reviews
  • Support the recruitment and hire of new engineers for full-time employment as well as outsourced contractors
  • Provide support for operations and support teams, including root cause analysis and preventative analysis

We would expect someone with the following qualifications to be successful in this role:

  • 5+ years’ hands-on software quality assurance testing of web-based products
  • Proven track record of delivering concurrent releases across multiple product lines with high quality
  • Solid knowledge of the SDLC and QA industry best practices with the ability to integrate these in established teams
  • Experience implementing continuous improvement processes in a QA environment
  • 2+ years’ experience managing quality engineering professionals with an emphasis on coaching and mentoring for skills improvement and career growth
  • Familiarity with test automation frameworks and scripting languages such as Selenium, Python, Javascript, etc.
  • Knowledge of performance testing concepts and KPIs used to measure product responsiveness
  • Demonstrated flexibility and comfort working in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to think on your feet, making sound decisions based on experience and available data
  • Excellent communication skills; good presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with Accessibility concepts and related testing methods/tools a plus
  • Familiarity with AWS build and deploy services a plus
