Sr. Data Engineer – Value Optimizer

The Senior Data Engineer will be one of the primary R&D resources creating and maintaining the technical data architecture supporting the Value Optimizer opportunity analysis application and will report to the director of engineering. This role will work closely with our services team and key stakeholders associated with population health opportunity analysis. This is a dynamic and challenging technical position on the forefront of making population health successful. This position will require a dynamic analytic skill set and preferably a good understanding of healthcare, including claims data and advanced concepts in population health.
What you’ll own in this role:
- Building queries and data models to support product development for analytics
- Continuous improvement (bug fixes, performance monitoring/improvements, understanding user personas and click paths, etc.)
- Building and/or collaborating on dashboards and various visualizations
- Contributing to overall team brainstorming on future direction re: product & improvements
- Collaborating effectively with peers and stakeholders in population health
What you bring to this role:
- Speed and mastery level SQL skills (T-SQL, ANSI SQL, etc.)
- Expert level experience in dashboard development using BI tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, QlikView, etc.
- Good understanding of claims data (medical, Rx, enrollment/eligibility)
- Expertise in value-based care concepts and structuring claims & other data to support product development
- Quick ability to learn new technologies and evaluate the use of specific tools to solve a problem
- Strong relationship/team building, written and verbal communication skills
- Strong problem-solving skills paired with the ability to develop creative and efficient solutions; tolerance in dealing with ambiguity and data quality issues
- Knowledge of developing and maintaining documentation—or working with technical writers—describing data and data structures including data architecture, data infrastructure and data models
- Team-oriented, goal-oriented, and flexible with proven track record in collaborating with multiple stakeholders
You might also have:
- Experience in using the Health Catalyst platform or another enterprise data warehouse
- Experience with population health opportunity analysis tools
- Knowledge of multiple types of payers (Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial, etc.)
- Knowledge of healthcare claims-based benchmarking methodologies
- Knowledge of quality measures and/or patient experience survey data
- Good understanding of user experience design, especially as it pertains to data visualization
Preferred Education & Relevant Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent experience
