Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) 2025 Overview
The Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) provides scholarships for master’s degree programs in development-related fields. It is open to professionals from developing countries who have experience contributing to their country’s development and wish to pursue postgraduate studies at one of the 41 participating master’s programs across 24 universities worldwide.
Scholars are required to return to their home country after completing their studies to contribute to social and economic development.
Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) 2025 Eligibility
Applicants must:

Be a citizen of a World Bank member developing country (check the official list).

Not hold dual citizenship of any developed country.

Be in good health.
-
Hold a bachelor’s degree earned at least three years before the application deadline.

Be employed in development-related work in a full-time paid position at the time of application.
-
Have at least three years of paid development-related work experience within the last six years.

Have an unconditional admission (except for financial aid) into one of the 41 participating master’s programs before applying for the scholarship.

Not be a World Bank employee (or related to a World Bank employee).
Note:

Those from fragile and conflict-affected countries may receive special consideration due to limited employment opportunities.

Previous recipients of the JJ/WBGSP scholarship who declined or did not graduate are not eligible to reapply.
Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) 2025 Application Windows
JJ/WBGSP applications are processed in two rounds:

Window 1: January 13 – February 28, 2025 (12:00 noon EST)

Window 2: March 25 – May 23, 2025 (12:00 noon EST)
Applicants must first gain admission to a participating master’s program before they receive a link to apply for the scholarship.
Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) 2025 Selection Criteria
Applications are independently reviewed and scored based on:

Quality of professional experience (30%)

Commitment to home country development (30%)

Quality of education background (10%)
The final selection considers:

Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) 2025 Scholarship Benefits
The JJ/WBGSP covers: Round-trip airfare (plus a $600 travel allowance per trip)
Full tuition fees

Monthly living stipend (varies by country)

Research materials, workshops, or internships
