Killam Postdoctoral Research Fellowship 2025: Overview

The Killam Postdoctoral Research Fellowship, funded through the Killam Endowments, supports outstanding scholars from around the world to conduct innovative research at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Established in memory of Izaak Walton Killam, the fellowship aims to nurture researchers who combine exceptional intellect with strong character, leadership potential, and the ability to advance learning in their fields.

Killam Postdoctoral Research Fellowship 2025:Eligibility
Applicants must:

• Have completed all PhD requirements within the last 24 months (extensions allowed for documented delays such as childcare or illness).

• Not have studied for a PhD at any UBC campus.

• Not currently hold a tenure-track or continuing faculty position.

• Provide justification if already in a UBC postdoctoral role.

• Be able to contribute significant new intellectual insights to UBC.

• Have a proposed supervisor who is a continuing, tenure-track faculty member at UBC committed to supervising for 24 months.

• Meet Canadian immigration requirements.

Killam Postdoctoral Research Fellowship 2025: Benefits

• Annual stipend of 60,000 CAD for up to two years

Fellowship Components

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit:

• The official application form

• All required supporting documents to their chosen UBC department or unit

• Any “Special Circumstances” documentation if requesting eligibility extension or continuation of an existing UBC appointment
  Each department has its own internal deadline, usually in October.

Selection Criteria

• Excellence in research (60%): research output, awards, timelines, critical thinking, initiative, resilience

• Quality of proposed research (30%): originality, significance, clarity, feasibility, research environment

• Personal qualities (10%): integrity, collegiality, communication, leadership through community or professional activities
  Preference is given to candidates who have not previously held a postdoctoral fellowship.

Application Process

• Submit a complete application to the relevant UBC department or unit

• Departments review submissions and nominate selected candidates

• Nominated applications proceed to final fellowship review

• Department nomination deadline: 7 November 2025 at 4:00 PM PT

• Applicant internal deadlines: set by individual departments (typically October)
