The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Carnegie Mellon University Africa (CMU-Africa) is designed to empower exceptional, service-driven young Africans who face significant social and economic barriers. The program offers full scholarships for Master of Science degrees in Information Technology, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence.

Since 2016, this initiative has nurtured transformative leaders committed to driving social and economic change across Africa. CMU-Africa is one of 33 global Mastercard Foundation partner institutions focused on developing Africa’s future innovators and change-makers.

Eligibility and Criteria

To be considered for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at CMU-Africa, applicants must:

  • Be academically talented and committed to completing their graduate studies.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to giving back through community service or social impact projects.

  • Show leadership potential with a passion for creating positive change in Africa.

  • Face social and economic barriers that limit access to higher education.

  • First, gain admission to one of CMU-Africa’s master’s degree programs (MSIT, MSECE, or MSEAI).
