Swansea University SUIPRES 2025/2026: Overview

The Swansea University International Postgraduate Research Excellence Scholarship (SUIPRES) is a competitive tuition fee scholarship for outstanding international students applying for PhD or Professional Doctorate programmes at Swansea University. The award reduces international tuition fees down to the UK (Home) fee rate for the duration of the programme.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

• Apply for an eligible PhD or Professional Doctorate at Swansea University

• Be classified as an international student and liable for international tuition fees

• Have achieved or be expecting:

  • A UK First Class or 2:1 undergraduate degree, or equivalent international qualification, and/or

  • A Distinction in a UK Master’s degree (or international equivalent)

• Demonstrate academic excellence beyond grades (e.g. awards, research, teaching, outreach)

Not eligible if you are:

• A current or returning PhD/Professional Doctorate student

• Applying for a Master’s degree

• Fully funded by a third-party sponsor

Benefits

• Covers the difference between International and Home (UK) tuition fees

• You pay the UK PhD fee rate per year instead of international fees

  • £4,786 (2024/25)

  • £5,006 (2025/26)

  • Fees increase annually (approx. 3%) in line with UKRI

• Scholarship is automatically deducted from tuition fees

Funding Details

• Tuition-only scholarship (no living stipend)

• Students must prove they can cover:

  • Remaining tuition fees

  • Living and maintenance costs for the full study period

• Various subject areas across:

  • Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

  • Faculty of Science and Engineering

  • Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Science

  • Academic achievements
