Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) is one of the world’s leading technical universities — ranked consistently in the global top 20 for engineering and technology. Its Justus & Louise van Effen Excellence Scholarships offer exceptional international Master’s students full tuition coverage plus a living expense contribution, enabling talented graduates from anywhere in the world to pursue a two-year MSc at one of Europe’s premier research universities.

Application deadline: 1 December 2026 at 23:59 CET

What the Scholarship Covers

Component Detail
Tuition fees Full tuition per year (statutory fee or institutional rate based on nationality)
Living expenses Additional contribution toward living costs
Number awarded 2 per faculty
Scholarship period Academic period 2027–2029
Notification By the end of March 2027

The scholarship covers the full tuition fee — which for non-EU international students at TU Delft typically runs €16,000–€20,000 per year — plus an additional living expense contribution. In Delft (near Rotterdam and The Hague), this combined package makes studying at TU Delft genuinely financially accessible for top international candidates.

Who Can Apply

Eligible:

  • Excellent international applicants who have been (conditionally) admitted to a 2-year regular TU Delft MSc programme
  • Students who are new, incoming students — not currently enrolled at TU Delft
  • Students with excellent academic results in their previous programme, relevant to their chosen Master’s — as an indication, being in the top 10% of graduates from your previous programme (proof of ranking not required — this is a competitiveness indicator)

Not eligible:

  • Current TU Delft bachelor’s students (even international ones)
  • International applicants who obtained their Bachelor’s degree at a Dutch university
  • Students who have already started their MSc at TU Delft

The Critical Deadline Rule

TU Delft’s scholarship deadline interacts with the MSc programme application deadline in a specific and important way:

The first deadline, whichever comes first between the MSc programme application deadline and the 1 December 2026 scholarship deadline — is the one that applies.

If your MSc programme has an application deadline before 1 December 2026, that earlier deadline is the effective scholarship deadline. You cannot wait for an admission decision before submitting your scholarship materials.

This means:

  • Check your specific MSc programme’s application deadline immediately
  • Submit all scholarship materials at the same time as your MSc application
  • Do not wait for an admission decision before applying for the scholarship

What You Must Submit: All At Once

All scholarship documents must be submitted simultaneously with your MSc application. Documents submitted separately or after your application are not accepted.

Required documents:

  1. Complete MSc application — check admission requirements for your chosen programme
  2. Scholarship Application Form — uploaded during MSc application
  3. Two reference letters — either uploaded directly (as one PDF) or requested through the application system using the referee invitation function. Reference letters not submitted by the scholarship deadline are not considered.
  4. English language certificate — required if applicable to your nationality. Must be included before the scholarship deadline.

The Application Process

Step 1: Begin your TU Delft MSc application at tudelft.nl

Step 2: Check both your programme’s application deadline AND the 1 December 2026 scholarship deadline — identify which comes first

Step 3: Complete your MSc application AND upload all scholarship materials simultaneously before the earlier deadline

Step 4: Ensure your reference letters are submitted (either directly uploaded or via referee invitation) before the deadline

Step 5: Await admission decision — scholarship consideration is linked to your admission outcome
