UBC Scholarships for International Students 2025: Overview

The University of British Columbia (UBC) offers a variety of merit-based scholarships and awards to support exceptional international students entering undergraduate programs. These awards recognize academic excellence, leadership, and extracurricular involvement. UBC is one of the world’s top universities and provides over $35 million annually in financial support to international students from more than 108 countries.

UBC Scholarships for International Students 2025: Eligibility

You are eligible for UBC merit-based awards if you:

• Are a new international student entering directly from secondary school (or in some cases, post-secondary)

• Will be studying at UBC on a Canadian study permit

• Demonstrate outstanding academic achievement

• Show strong extracurricular and community involvement

• Apply to UBC by the admissions deadline

• Are not applying for the need-and-merit-based International Scholars Program

1. International Major Entrance Scholarship (IMES)

Value: $10,000 – $20,000 per year (renewable up to 4 years)

Key Features:

• Awarded to top-performing international students entering UBC

• Renewable for up to 3 additional years of study

UBC Scholarships for International Students 2025: Eligibility:

• Meet the general eligibility criteria listed above

• Must not be nominated for the International Scholars Program

2. Outstanding International Student Award (OIS)

Value: $10,000 – $25,000 (one-time award)

Key Features:

• Granted upon admission based on academic merit and extracurricular activities

• One-time, non-renewable award

UBC Scholarships for International Students 2025: Eligibility:

• Must meet general eligibility criteria

• Available to students entering UBC directly from secondary school or post-secondary school

3. UBC Okanagan International Welcome Award

Value: $5,000 (automatically applied toward first-year tuition)

Key Features:

• Offered to all international students accepted into their first-choice program at UBC Okanagan

• 50% applied to Term 1 and 50% to Term 2

• No separate application required

UBC Scholarships for International Students 2025: Eligibility:

• First-year international student

• UBC Okanagan listed as first-choice campus

• Enrolment into that first-choice degree program
