Overview

The University of Exeter offers a variety of scholarships and bursaries to support students financially. Scholarships are awarded based on academic merit, personal achievement, or talent, while bursaries provide non-competitive financial support for students from disadvantaged backgrounds or those facing financial difficulties.


Scholarships

1. International Scholarships

  • Over £5 million in funding is available for international fee-paying students.
  • Includes the Exeter Excellence Scholarships.

2. Sport Scholarships

  • One of the UK’s top sports scholarship programs.
  • Offers a customized support package for student-athletes.
  • Many scholars progress to professional levels and represent their countries.

3. Choral Scholarships

  • Available through the Chapel Choir, Exeter Cathedral, and three local churches.
  • Scholarship values depend on weekly duties.

4. Entrance Scholarships

  • Open to students who have been offered an undergraduate place at Exeter or Penryn campuses through UCAS.

5. Sanctuary Scholarship

  • Supports asylum seekers and refugees who cannot access student finance.

6. Mature Students’ Scholarship

  • Open to home undergraduate students starting their studies in 2025.
  • Awarded as:
    • £2,000 in Year 1
    • £1,000 in Year 2 (cash payment)

7. Travel Scholarships

  • Mrs. Bessie Rook Memorial Travel Scholarship:
    • For students studying abroad in German and/or French-speaking countries.
    • Six scholarships are available, each worth £2,000.
  • Carolyn & Andrew Trevorrow Memorial Fund Travel Bursaries:
    • For students at the Penryn and Truro campuses to support field course costs.
    • Preference is given to Cornish-born students or those meeting Widening Participation criteria.

Bursaries

1. Access to Exeter Bursary (ATE)

For UK home students based on household income:

  • £16,000 and below → £2,300/year (Full-time) or £1,150/year (Part-time).
  • £16,001 – £25,000 → £1,340/year (Full-time) or £670/year (Part-time).
  • £25,001 – £30,000 → £850/year (Full-time) or £425/year (Part-time).
  • £30,001 – £35,000 → £500/year (Full-time) or £250/year (Part-time).
  • Payments are made in three installments per academic year.

2. Care Leavers and Estranged Students Bursary

  • £1,000 per year for up to four years (five years for Medicine).
  • Eligibility:
    • Full-time undergraduate students.
    • Recognized as a care leaver or estranged from both parents/carers.
    • Under 25 years old at the start of the course.
    • UK citizen or resident for at least 3 years.
  • Payments are made in two installments (December & June).
