University of Manchester Equity and Merit Scholarships for International Master’s Students (2026/27): Overview

The University of Manchester Equity and Merit Scholarships support academically outstanding students from the Global South who are committed to advancing the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals in their home countries. These awards target those who could not afford to study in Manchester without financial assistance, with a focus on empowering women and applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Application Deadline: August 31, 2025

Study Mode: Full-time (on-campus) or Part-time (distance learning)

Scholarship Type: Fully funded master’s scholarship for students from the Global South

For 2026 entry, 30 scholarships will be offered:

• 20 for full-time, on-campus master’s programmes (1 year)

• 10 for part-time, distance learning master’s programmes (3–5 years)

Eligible courses include engineering, environment, health sciences, development, education, textiles, and law.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

• Be a resident citizen of Ethiopia, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, or Zimbabwe

• Never have studied outside Africa (short training of ≤6 months excluded)

• Have at least 2 years of professional experience related to the chosen field (unpaid internships/volunteer work excluded)

• Hold a bachelor’s degree with an outstanding grade (typically top 10% of class, graduated before September 2024)

• Commit to returning home and demonstrate the potential for significant positive impact

• Have a clear plan for how studying in Manchester will benefit their career and community

Application Timeline

• August 1–31, 2025 – Scholarship application window

• September 2025 – Eligibility checks

• October 1–31, 2025 – Academic application window (by invitation only)

• Nov 2025 – May 2026 – Review period

• June 2026 – Results announced

• September 2026 – Academic year begins

1. Submit an online scholarship application between August 1–31, 2025.

2. If eligible, you will be invited to apply for your chosen master’s programme.

3. Receive an admission offer to proceed with scholarship shortlisting.
