University of St Andrews GREAT Scholarship 2026: Overview

The University of St Andrews GREAT Scholarship 2026 offers £10,000 tuition support to outstanding students from France, Greece, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, and Spain. This scholarship is part of the UK Government’s GREAT Britain Campaign and the British Council partnership, aimed at nurturing future global leaders.

University of St Andrews GREAT Scholarship 2026: Eligibility

Applicants must:

• Be citizens of France, Greece, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, or Spain.

• Apply for a full-time, taught postgraduate Master’s degree (MSc, MRes, MLitt, or MPP) at the University of St Andrews.

• Hold overseas fee status.

• Demonstrate academic excellence and leadership potential.

• Meet the English language requirements for their chosen course or begin a 10-week pre-sessional English course by 30 June 2026.

Note: Graduate Diplomas, online or distance learning courses, and programmes delivered outside Scotland are not eligible.

Benefits

• Value: £10,000 towards tuition fees.

• Number of Awards: 7 (one per eligible country).

• Duration: 1 year.

• Additional Opportunities: Scholars will engage with the Student Ambassadors Scheme and the British Council.

Application Period

• Opens: Tuesday, 4 November 2025

• Closes: Sunday, 24 May 2026

• Notification: Week commencing Monday, 22 June 2026

Application Requirements

Applicants must upload:

• One academic reference (can be the same as used in the course application).

• University transcript(s) (including interim transcripts if applicable).

• A personal statement outlining:

  • Reasons for applying.

  • How the scholarship will benefit them.

  • How they plan to contribute to the St Andrews community.

Application Process

1. Apply for a Master’s programme (MLitt, MRes, MSc, or MPP) at the University of St Andrews.

2. Wait up to two working days to receive your My Application portal login.

3. Log in, navigate to Scholarships and Funding, and search for British Council GREAT Scholarship.

4. Submit all supporting documents before the deadline.
