University of York GREAT Scholarship 2025 Overview

In partnership with the British Council and the GREAT Britain Campaign, the University of York is offering 8 scholarships for the 2025/26 academic year. The scholarship supports postgraduate students from select countries to pursue one-year Master’s degrees in the UK. Each scholarship is worth £10,000, applied as a tuition fee reduction.

University of York GREAT Scholarship 2025 Eligibility

Applicants must:

• Be a citizen and resident of China (mainland only), Greece, Indonesia, Malaysia (Law-related programs only), Nigeria, Thailand, or Vietnam

• Hold a conditional or unconditional offer to study a one-year full-time taught postgraduate course at the University of York by 16 May 2025

• Be classified as an overseas fee-paying student

• Have met any English language requirement by 16 May 2025

• Not be a current student at the University of York (prior intakes ineligible)

• Not be holding a 100% tuition scholarship or full sponsorship

Eligible Courses for Malaysia Only:

• LLM Law

• LLM Art Law

• LLM International Corporate and Commercial Law

• LLM International Human Rights Law and Practice

• LLM Legal and Political Theory

• LLM International Law and Practice

• LLM Professional Legal Practice (SQE1 & SQE2)

• MA Applied Human Rights

• LLM International Business Law and Practice

Not Eligible:

• Students of Hull York Medical School

• Students on International Pathway College, Kaplan, CASPPER, distance/online/part-time programs

• Courses longer than 1 year

• MA Public Policy (Mundus MAPP)

University of York GREAT Scholarship 2025 Benefits

• £10,000 tuition fee reduction

• May be combined with other York or external funding (as long as it doesn’t cover 100% of tuition)

• Opportunity to act as a GREAT ambassador for the University and British Council

University of York GREAT Scholarship 2025 Program Components

• One-year postgraduate taught program in the UK

• Participation in the GREAT Scholars community

• Engagement as a student ambassador

Application Requirements

• Submit the online application form

• Answer questions about your course and future goals

• Provide proof of nationality if requested

• No need to have accepted your offer by the application deadline

Selection Criteria

• Academic excellence (preference for UK First Class equivalent)

• Strength and clarity of application answers

• Only one candidate per eligible country (except China with two awards)

Application Process

• Apply online by Friday, 16 May 2025, 11:59 PM BST

• Offers will be sent via email to successful applicants

• To secure the scholarship, selected candidates must:

  • Accept the offer

  • Make York their firm choice by the deadline in the offer email

Additional Notes

• Deferring admission voids the scholarship (must reapply the following year)

• Applicants can combine with other York departmental scholarships
