West Africa Postgraduate Chancellor’s Scholarship 2025 Overview

The University of Birmingham is offering the West Africa Postgraduate Chancellor’s Scholarship for outstanding students from Nigeria and Ghana. The scholarship provides a £10,000 tuition fee reduction for eligible students enrolling in a full-time postgraduate taught master’s program at the UK campus starting September 2025. This prestigious award recognizes academic excellence and is aimed at nurturing talented graduates from West Africa.

West Africa Postgraduate Chancellor’s Scholarship 2025 Eligibility

To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be nationals or domiciled in Nigeria or Ghana.

  • Have received and accepted an offer for a full-time postgraduate taught master’s programme at the University of Birmingham (UK campus), starting in September 2025.

  • Hold or be expecting at least a 2:1 (Upper Second Class Honours) in their undergraduate degree or equivalent.

  • Be classified by the University as an overseas fee payer.

  • Have paid a £3,000 deposit by the date stated in their offer letter.

  • Be able to fund their remaining tuition balance and living expenses, including travel and visa costs.

  • Be registered with one of the University’s local representatives in Ghana or Nigeria, and have their application attached to the representative.

  • Submit a scholarship application via their local representative by the deadline.

  • Begin their studies in September 2025 (scholarship cannot be deferred).

Ineligible Programmes

  • Distance learning, MPhil, MRes, PhD, and PGDip/PGCert programmes.

  • Birmingham Business School programmes (students can apply to the Business School’s own scholarships).

West Africa Postgraduate Chancellor’s Scholarship 2025 Benefits

  • £10,000 tuition reduction for a full-time postgraduate taught program.

  • Can be combined with the £5,000 125th Anniversary Scholarship, increasing potential funding up to £15,000.

  • Opportunity to study at a globally recognized UK university.

Application Requirements

  • Valid postgraduate offer and acceptance for a qualifying program.

  • Proof of nationality/domicile in Nigeria or Ghana.

  • £3,000 deposit payment by the stated deadline.

  • Registration with a local representative and submission of application via them.

  • A 250–300 word personal statement titled Why Birmingham”, to be submitted through the representative.

Selection Criteria

  • Awards are based on academic excellence.

  • Strong undergraduate academic record (2:1 or above).

  • Quality and clarity of the Why Birmingham” personal statement.

Restrictions

  • Cannot be used for non-qualifying programmes (listed above).

  • Cannot be deferred to future academic sessions.

  • Cannot be combined with other major scholarships, such as full government awards.

  • Only valid for programs beginning in September 2025.

Application Process

  1. Apply and receive an offer for an eligible postgraduate taught program.

  2. Accept the offer and select University of Birmingham as firm choice.

  3. Pay the £3,000 deposit by the deadline in your offer letter.

  4. Register with a listed local representative in Ghana or Nigeria.

  5. Submit your scholarship application and Why Birmingham” statement via the representative by 30 June 2025.

  6. Await selection results, expected to be announced by July or early August 2025.

  7. If selected, enrol and pay net tuition fees by 1 November 2025.
