CFA Institute Access Scholarship 2026/27: Reduce Your CFA Exam Fee to $400 (Four Application Windows Per Year)

The CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) designation is the most respected credential in investment management globally — recognised by employers in financial services, asset management, investment banking, equity research, and related fields in every major financial market in the world. It is also expensive: standard registration fees can exceed $1,200 per exam level.

The CFA Institute Access Scholarship reduces the exam registration fee to $400 USD (under the Premium Registration Package including Practice Pack) — making the CFA credential substantially more accessible to candidates who cannot afford the standard fee.

There are four application windows per year, each aligned with an exam window.

What the Scholarship Provides

Component Detail
Reduced exam fee $400 USD (Premium Registration Package including Practice Pack)
Standard exam fee $1,200+ (varies by registration timing)
Application windows 4 per year
Applicable levels Varies by window — see table below

Important: The $400 reduced fee applies to the Premium Registration Package, which includes the Practice Pack. Tax applies where relevant (check CFA Institute’s tax policy at cfainstitute.org/about/governance/policies/tax-policy).

Scholarships awarded before 4 March 2026 do not include complimentary Practice Pack access — this applies only to scholarships awarded from that date onward. No exceptions.

Who Can Apply

Applicants must meet the general requirements for the CFA Program — which include:

  • A bachelor’s degree (or being in the final year of a bachelor’s programme)
  • OR four years of relevant professional work experience
  • OR a combination of professional work experience and education totalling four years

Full eligibility requirements are available at cfainstitute.org/programs/cfa-program#registration-criteria

The Access Scholarship is specifically designed for candidates who cannot afford the standard registration fee while still meeting all CFA Program eligibility requirements. Financial need is the primary consideration.

How to Apply

Apply through the CFA Institute scholarship portal at cfai.smapply.io/prog/access_scholarship_may_exam/

The most important rule on applications: Providing knowingly false or misleading information in applying for an Access Scholarship is a violation of the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct. This includes misrepresenting financial need, employment, or education history. Violations can result in:

  • Investigation by the CFA Institute Professional Conduct Program
  • Suspension or prohibition from participating in the CFA Program
  • Permanent ineligibility for future scholarships

The CFA designation is built on ethical practice. The scholarship application is treated with the same standards.

Why the CFA Matters

For professionals working in or aspiring to careers in investment management, equity research, portfolio management, private equity, or corporate finance — the CFA charter is the most recognised credential globally. It signals technical competence, ethical commitment, and seriousness of purpose to employers in financial markets worldwide.

The programme is structured across three levels. Most candidates take two to four years to complete all three levels, studying alongside full-time work. The Access Scholarship reduces the financial barrier to sitting each exam, allowing candidates to progress through the programme at their own pace without the full fee being a blocker.
