The DAAD-EPOS (Development-Related Postgraduate Courses) scholarship supports young professionals from developing countries pursuing the Master of Environmental Governance (MEG) at the University of Freiburg. It offers fully funded study opportunities with a focus on development-relevant knowledge, fostering capacity building in candidates’ home countries.

DAAD-EPOS Scholarship for the MEG Program at the University of Freiburg (Winter 2026/27) Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be from a developing (DAC-listed) country.

  • Hold an academic degree not older than 6 years (as of October 2025).

  • Have at least 2 years of relevant professional work experience (after a Bachelor’s, not including internships or voluntary work).

  • Have an above-average academic record (top third of class).

  • Not have resided in Germany for more than 15 months before applying.

  • Fulfill both the MEG programme and the DAAD-EPOS requirements.

  • (If already holding a master’s degree) Provide strong justification for pursuing another postgraduate course.

All documents must be submitted electronically (by 15 October 2025) in one merged and compressed PDF to: info-meg@unr.uni-freiburg.de. Reference letters should be sent directly by referees.

Required documents:

  1. DAAD Application Form (with date of issue)

  2. MEG Application Form

  3. Letter of Motivation (max 2 pages, dated, customized for MEG and DAAD priority list)

  4. CV (EUROPASS format) (chronological, dated, no gaps)

  5. Transcript of Records (Bachelor’s degree is mandatory; numeric grades required)

  6. Degree Certificate(s) (Bachelor’s; Master’s optional)

  7. Proof of Relevant Professional Experience (min 2 years, dated, signed, stamped on official letterhead)

  8. Two Recommendation Letters

    • One professional/employer

    • One academic (sent directly by referees)

  9. English Language Certificate (TOEFL iBT 95, IELTS Band 7, or equivalent)

    • Exemptions apply for native English speakers or degrees taught in English

  10. Signed DAAD Checklist (must be hand-signed and scanned)

  11. APS Certificate (only for applicants from India, China, Vietnam – can be submitted later)

  • Optional Online Eligibility Assessment (OEA) available until 8 October

  • First results announced end of January 2026
