Design Engineer at Phillips Consulting, Ajah, Lagos

Our client, a leading formwork and scaffolding organisation at the Lekki axis in Lagos State, is seeking a skilled, proactive Design Engineer to join the Engineering team in Nigeria. This role is designed for a construction-focused professional with hands-on experience in formwork and engineering design. You will support project planning and implementation, provide technical advice on products, and produce accurate, cost-effective designs and quotations that ensure operational excellence and client satisfaction.

In this role, you will collaborate with internal teams and clients, translate engineering requirements into practical design solutions, and contribute to the growth and efficiency of the Engineering Office.

Responsibilities:

• Assist the Team Leader in maintaining operational performance of the Engineering Office.
• Develop a deep understanding of product offerings and technical design strategy.
• Provide technical guidance to customers and sales engineers.
• Produce accurate drawings, schedules, and quotations while optimising resources and cost-effectiveness.
• Prepare and present offers and technical presentations independently when required.
• Conduct independent solution finding, quotation calculation, and technical description.
• Perform static pre-dimensioning and review schemes produced by other team members for safety, accuracy, and cost efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with engineering processes and support the development of tools to increase productivity.
• Collaborate with the Head of Engineers, Sales Team, and Managing Director to support strategic growth.
• Travel occasionally for training, site support, and client engagements.

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related construction field.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and design analysis programs.
• Proficient in MS Office, including Excel.
• Previous experience in formwork design is desirable.
• Knowledge of engineering standards for formwork and scaffolding is advantageous.
• Understanding of technical requirements in the Nigerian construction industry.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team.
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
