Entertainment/Lifestyle Content Writer

MelaninPeople e-magazine is a startup entertainment, culture, and lifestyle magazine, with content covering mainly black people and other people of color. At MelaninPeople, our dedicated team of professional writers are focused on bringing readers quality, engaging, and timely stories and content.

We are hiring a full-time culture, entertainment, and lifestyle writer to cover timely and relevant industry stories.

We’re looking for a voracious TV and social media watcher with a demonstrably broad interest in what’s going on in the medium, both behind the scenes and on the screen.

We are looking for a writer with a well-developed voice to conduct interviews and cover daily news about the entertainment industry.

Be well-versed in creating 100% unique and informative content

Generate weekly ideas for new features, reports, and articles.

Research and cover entertainment news through a variety of forms, which may include talent interviews, news briefs, long-form essays, and podcast or video content.

Job Requirements and Responsibilities:

-As a writer, you will be responsible for producing a set amount of articles each day

-Fast-paced, but quality writing for the Internet

-The ability to write both concise, punchy short takes on developing news and longform features

-Strong writing skills, including an understanding of fact-checking, journalistic ethics, and writing structure

-Conduct interviews and write profile feature articles

-Adhere to in-house style guide

-Have a reliable internet connection and a standard word processor (i.e. Microsoft Word)

-Competence in performing basic research on assigned topics and synthesizing articles that provide value to the reader

-A self-starter who can conceive and execute stories with impact. You will sometimes have stories assigned to you, but for the most part, you’ll take the initiative to come up with and pursue unique story ideas yourself.

-A demonstrable keen interest in entertainment and the field of lifestyle and critical writing

– Have an understanding of search engine optimization/keyword research

-Ability to use WordPress website management (uploading content, images, or new pages
