Marine Assurance Superintendent at Tetra Maritime, Lagos
We are seeking an experienced Marine Assurance Superintendent – Condition Monitoring & Inspection to support the safe, compliant, and reliable operation of our fleet, and the ongoing development of our crews.
To ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operation of company-owned tanker vessels through inspections, vetting preparation, and adherence to international maritime regulations and industry best practices.
The role focuses on pre-vetting readiness, CDI, and SIRE 2.0 compliance, and continuous improvement of vessel safety and operational standards.
The role is responsible for assessing, monitoring, and assuring the structural and operational condition of vessels, providing independent marine assurance oversight, and supporting continuous improvement in vessel condition and safety performance.
Requirements
Conduct onboard Marine Assurance inspections with emphasis on:
- Structural condition
- Deck and cargo system condition
- Mooring systems
- Navigation and bridge operations
- Engineering and safety‑critical systems
- Crew competency and operational readiness
Maintain and support a fleet-wide condition monitoring framework, covering:
- Hull and structural integrity
- Deck equipment and mooring arrangements
- Cargo containment and handling systems
- Navigation and bridge equipment
- Safety-critical marine systems
- Crew competency and performance standards
Analyse condition-related data, including:
- Inspection findings
- Defects and breakdown trends
- Produce clear, accurate inspection and condition assessment reports
Monitor and report marine assurance KPIs, including:
- Repeat condition-related findings
- Inspection outcomes related to vessel condition
- Critical defects per vessel
Skills and Competencies
- Master Mariner or Chief Engineer
- Strong vessel operational and safety knowledge
- Experience with vessel inspections and condition assessment
- Strong inspection, auditing, and reporting skills
- Excellent knowledge of tanker operations, cargo handling, and safety practices
- Ability to interpret and apply regulatory and industry standards effectively
- Ability to work independently and travel extensively on short notice
Desirable Experience:
- Experience in marine inspections, auditing, or vetting
- SIRE 2.0 familiarity or inspector experience
- Shore-based marine assurance or fleet support background
Key Skills:
- Strong observational and analytical skills
- Risk-based thinking and attention to detail
- Clear technical reporting and communication
- Ability to engage constructively with vessel senior officers
