Leeds Doctoral Scholarships 2025 Overview

The Leeds Doctoral Scholarships provide fully funded opportunities for UK students pursuing a PhD at the University of Leeds. Up to six scholarships are available for the 2025/26 academic session, covering a range of faculties and research areas.

Leeds Doctoral Scholarships 2025 Eligibility

• Open to UK students only.
• Must be applying for a full-time or part-time PhD in one of the eligible faculties.
• Must hold a First-Class Honours degree or equivalent.
  • Candidates with a lower undergraduate grade may be considered if they have a Distinction in a relevant Master’s program or relevant professional experience.
• Must not already hold or be currently studying for a doctoral degree.
• Must reside within a reasonable distance of the University of Leeds while on the scholarship.
• English Language Requirement:
  • Minimum IELTS 6.0 overall (5.5 in each component) or equivalent.
  • Some faculties may require higher scores.

The scholarship is open for research in:

• Arts, Humanities, and Cultures
• Biological Sciences
• Business
• Environment
• Medicine and Health
• Social Sciences

Leeds Doctoral Scholarships 2025 Benefits

• Full tuition fees are covered for up to 3 years (full-time) or pro-rata for part-time.
• Annual maintenance grant of £19,237 (for 2024/25, subject to UKRI increase).
• Award duration:
  • Full-time: 3.5 years
  • Part-time: Pro-rata

Application Process

📅 Deadline: 1 April 2025 (by 17:00 UK time)
📌 Start Date: 1 October 2025

Stage 1:

• Apply for a research program at the University of Leeds.
• Submit all required supporting documents by the scholarship deadline.

Stage 2:

• After receiving your Student Application ID, complete the online scholarship application form.
• The Postgraduate Scholarships Office will not respond to inquiries regarding application progress until results are announced.

Selection Criteria

• Merit-based: Selection is purely on academic excellence, not financial need.
• Shortlisted candidates will be nominated by their respective Schools.
• The final selection will be made by the University of Leeds Scholarship Panel.
• Names of successful applicants will be published within 10 weeks after the deadline.
