Loughborough University offers a range of sports scholarships to support talented postgraduate student athletes. These scholarships are designed to ease the pressure of balancing elite-level sport with academic studies, providing both financial support and access to world-class sporting facilities and professional services.

Loughborough University Sports Scholarships for Postgraduate Athletes (2025) Eligibility

• Open to both UK and international students.

• Applicants must demonstrate high-level sporting achievements.

• Must be applying for a master’s or research (PhD) degree at Loughborough.

• For most scholarships, applicants must be self-funding.

Loughborough University Sports Scholarships for Postgraduate Athletes (2025) Benefits

• Sports Scholarships:

  • Up to £5,000 per year

  • Free Loughborough Sport Gold membership (includes Powerbase Gym)

  • Free Athletic Union club membership

  • Campus parking permit

  • Access to top-level coaching, sports science, psychology, nutrition, and academic flexibility

• International Sports Student Postgraduate Bursary:

  • 40% tuition fee reduction (approx. £8,000 value)

  • For high-level international athletes

  • Must compete for Loughborough in BUCS competitions

  • Notification of outcome by 20 June 2025

• Elite Athlete Doctoral Scholarship:

  • For PhD candidates starting October 2025

  • Apply by 23 May 2025

  • Must have an accepted PhD project and program admission

  • Selection involves Loughborough Sport and Doctoral College

• Virendra Kumar Dhall Scholarship for Sporting Excellence:

  • For Indian postgraduate students

  • No separate application; selection is handled internally by coaches during the admissions process
