The American University (AU) Emerging Global Leader Scholarship (AU EGLS) empowers high-achieving international students who are passionate about civic engagement and community change in their home countries. The scholarship provides full funding to two outstanding students each year and now includes partial scholarships for up to eight additional students. AU seeks leaders from under-resourced backgrounds who demonstrate a clear commitment to service, leadership, and academic excellence.

Scholarship Categories

• Full Scholarship (2 slots): Covers full tuition, room, and board
• Partial Scholarships (Up to 8 slots): Worth up to $40,000/year

Study in the USA: AU Emerging Global Leader Scholarship 2026 (Fully Funded + Partial Awards): Eligibility Criteria

• Must be an international student needing a non-immigrant visa (F-1 or J-1)
• Must be graduating from secondary/high school by June 2026
• Must not hold U.S. citizenship, dual citizenship with the U.S., or permanent residency
• Must not have started or completed any post-secondary studies
• Must meet AU’s English language proficiency requirements

Documents Required
• Common Application (with supporting documents)
• AU EGLS-specific application and essays (via applicant portal)
• Bank letter and signed AU Declaration of Finances Form showing a minimum of $4,000
• Official English test results (TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo English Test, PTE, or Cambridge)
• (If applicable) Letter from EducationUSA adviser or proof of being a FLEX/YES program alum

Important Notes
• Partial scholarship winners must show proof of funds to cover the remaining costs not covered by the award
• Applicants must apply via Regular Decision for Fall 2026
• Non-finalists may still be considered for admission and merit-based aid

Selection Process
• Step 1: Submit the Common Application + all supporting documents by January 15, 2026
• Step 2: Complete the AU EGL Scholarship application and essays via your portal
• Semi-finalists and finalists will be contacted for interviews or additional essays
• Final decisions released by April 1, 2026

Scholarship Value
• Full Scholarship: Covers tuition, room, and board (billable costs only) for 4 years
• Partial Scholarship: Up to $40,000/year toward tuition (students must fund the rest)
