EAccelerate Fund 2025 for East African Filmmakers: Overview
The EAccelerate Fund, managed by Documentary Africa (DocA) on behalf of the East Africa Screen Collective (EASC), supports East African filmmakers with funding and mentorship to develop short films. It is a continuation and localization of the DW Akademie Film Development Fund, now fully African-led and focused on decolonizing sectoral financing. The 2025 edition targets alumni of the original DW Akademie program, providing resources to bring their developed ideas to the screen.

Scholarship Categories
Film Development & Production – Short Films (max 20 minutes)
Eligibility Criteria
• The director and producer must both be East African
• Applicants must be from Burundi, DRC, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Comoros, Mauritius, or Madagascar
• 80% of the film must be shot in East Africa
• Films must not exceed 20 minutes
• Final film must be completed by December 1st, 2025
• Films must be available for regional and international screenings

• Any supporting visual materials (if applicable)
Important Notes
• Open only to teams that include alumni of the DW Akademie Film Development Fund
• Applicants should demonstrate originality, cultural relevance, and regional storytelling
Selection Process
Proposals will be reviewed based on creativity, feasibility, team capacity, and potential for regional/international visibility. Finalists will receive mentorship and financial support.
