African Graduate Fellowship at AUC: Overview

The African Graduate Fellowship is a competitive, fully funded fellowship offered by The American University in Cairo (AUC) to support bright and highly motivated African students (excluding Egyptians) pursuing a master’s degree. The fellowship aims to strengthen Africa’s future leadership across diverse academic and professional fields.

African Graduate Fellowship at AUC: Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be non-Egyptian African nationals

  • Not hold dual non-African nationality

  • Be applying to (or admitted into) a graduate programme at AUC

  • Meet AUC graduate admission requirements

  • Submit a valid TOEFL iBT or Academic IELTS score (as required by AUC)

  • Demonstrate financial need

  • For continuing students: maintain a minimum GPA of 3.2

African Graduate Fellowship at AUC: Benefits

The fellowship covers:

  • Full tuition fees (up to 9 credits per semester)

  • Monthly stipend

  • Student services and activities fees

  • Medical services and health insurance

  • Monthly housing allowance or accommodation in AUC residences (New Cairo campus)

  • Possible coverage of remedial English language requirements

Fellowship / Programme Components

  • Fellows are assigned 12 hours per week of related academic work

  • Teaching Assistantship training is mandatory if assigned teaching duties

  • Students must maintain full-time enrollment throughout the fellowship

Duration

  • Up to five semesters plus one summer session, subject to satisfactory academic performance

  • For Counseling Psychology, the fellowship may extend to seven semesters

  • Fellowship is reviewed every semester

Application Requirements

  • Meet English language requirements (TOEFL iBT / IELTS)
