ALF Euro-Mediterranean Young Professionals Programme 2026–2027 — Paid Work Experience in Egypt for Graduates Under 30 (Deadline: 27 June 2026)

ALF Euro-Mediterranean Young Professionals Programme 2026–2027 — Paid Work Experience in Egypt for Graduates Under 30 (Deadline: 27 June 2026)

If you graduated recently, are under 30, and have been looking for a way to get real international work experience at an intergovernmental institution without paying for it yourself, this programme has your name on it.

The Anna Lindh Foundation (ALF) Euro-Mediterranean Young Professionals Programme is a full-time, paid professional placement of up to 11 months at the ALF Secretariat in Alexandria, Egypt. It is open to nationals of 44 countries across the Euro-Mediterranean region — and Nigeria is not on that list, so read the eligibility section carefully before applying.

But if you hold nationality from an eligible country, or know someone who does, this is an opportunity worth acting on immediately.

Deadline: 27 June 2026 at 23:59 CET. That is less than three weeks away.

What ALF Is

The Anna Lindh Foundation is an intergovernmental organisation jointly established by the European Union and the League of Arab States. It operates under the Union for the Mediterranean framework and works across 44 countries to promote intercultural dialogue, civil society engagement, and youth inclusion.

Working at the ALF Secretariat means working inside a real intergovernmental institution, not an NGO, not a startup, not a corporate internship. The kind of experience that opens doors in diplomacy, international development, policy, and multilateral careers.

What the Programme Offers

Selected young professionals will be based at the ALF Secretariat in Alexandria, Egypt, for up to 11 months beginning 1 September 2026. During that time, you will:

  • Work directly inside one of four functional units (details below)
  • Gain hands-on experience in the daily operations of an intergovernmental institution
  • Work in a multicultural, multilingual environment across 43 countries
  • Build a professional network with experts in intercultural dialogue and civil society
  • Add a prestigious institutional name to your CV at the start of your career

The programme description references professional compensation, though the specific stipend amount is not publicly listed in the call. Check the full application guidance at the ALF website for current figures.

The Four Fields You Can Apply For

1. Civil Society

You would support the engagement of ALF’s 4,700 grassroots member organisations across 43 countries. Work involves coordinating intercultural activities led by National Civil Society Network heads, following up on implementation timelines, organising virtual coordination meetings, and managing stakeholder communication.

Best fit if your background is in development studies, international relations, NGO work, sociology, or public administration.

2. Public Policies

Despite the name, this role is primarily editorial. You would manage the publication workflow across ALF’s publication lines, communicating with authors and peer reviewers, copyediting, proofreading, and maintaining editorial tracking systems.

Best fit if your background is in political science, international relations, journalism, communications, or if you have publishing or editorial experience.

3. Corporate Communication

You would contribute to content creation, outreach campaigns, and human-centred storytelling across ALF’s digital platforms, helping communicate the impact of intercultural dialogue work to a broad international audience.

Best fit if your background is in communications, media, journalism, marketing, digital content, or public relations.

4. Operations and Coordination

You would provide operational support for ALF’s programmes, events, and initiatives, helping prepare and follow up on activities, coordinating with stakeholders and participants, and handling logistical and administrative processes.

Best fit if your background is in project management, business administration, international affairs, or programme coordination.

Note: ALF reserves the right to assign you to a different field from your first choice based on your profile and their internal needs. You may also be asked to rotate between fields during the placement.

Eligibility

  • Nationality: You must be a national of one of the 44 Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) member countries. These include countries across North Africa (Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Tunisia), the Middle East (Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria), Southern Europe (France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Portugal, and others), and the Balkans. The full list is at thecommonwealth.org, check UfM membership specifically.
  • Age: Under 30 as of 1 September 2026
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree minimum; Master’s degree preferred, in a field relevant to your chosen track
  • English: Excellent written and spoken English at C1 level minimum. Other languages (Arabic, French) are an advantage, given the working environment
  • Experience: Demonstrated background in your chosen field

How to Apply

The application is online only and available in English. You must complete and submit the form before 27 June 2026 at 23:59 CET.

Full call and application form: check the ALF website at annalindhfoundation.org

Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered. There is no fee to apply.

What to Focus On in Your Application

Two things will determine whether you get selected: your motivation statement and how clearly your background maps to your chosen field.

Be specific about why intercultural dialogue matters to you, not in a generic “I want to make a difference” way, but in terms of something you have actually seen, worked on, or studied. ALF is an institution built around a very specific mission. They want to see that you understand what that mission is and have a genuine connection to it.

Also, be honest about your field preference. The note in the eligibility section makes clear that ALF will assign you based on their own needs, so don’t try to pick the “most impressive” sounding track. Pick the one that most accurately reflects your skills and experience.

Why This Matters for Your Career

Early-career international experience is one of the hardest things to get on a CV from Nigeria or from any country outside the Western core. Most fellowships and trainee programmes are closed to non-EU nationals or require you to already be based in Europe.

This one is explicitly open to candidates from across the Mediterranean and Middle East region, and it places you inside an institution that does real multilateral work. Eleven months at the ALF Secretariat, properly executed, is the kind of experience that positions you for roles at UN agencies, the African Union, ECOWAS, international NGOs, and diplomatic missions.

If you or anyone you know holds an eligible nationality and is under 30, share this immediately.
